Micro Hole Drilling

When it comes to micro hole drilling, it is critical to have a total understanding of how lasers perform and how they interact with the target material. We have designed features into our laser specifically for micro hole drilling. These design features give us complete control of the laser's performance characteristics.

We have also developed techniques that deliver extremely consistent hole diameters and depths. We are able to eliminate raised edges typical when drilling soft, low, temperature plastics. This, coupled with 25 years of experience processing all kinds of materials, gives us the ability to produce results such as that shown below on the right. The material was Nylon (Pbax).

The application required we drill four .006" dia. holes through a .003" wall and not damage the far wall .005" away. The end product was a catheter that had 4 lumens in it. We built a machine that located the lumens, drilled the holes and indexed the part out to an operator. Machine output was 20% above our customer's requirements.
